March Bulletin for Overseas IAEA 2006 Conference Participants

Greetings from Singapore!

We have just said 'how do you do' to all of you in English, Malay, Tamil and Chinese. Welcome to our March Bulletin where you will discover multicultural, multiracial and multilingual Singapore.

Much of what we do (and eat!) in Singapore reflects our cultural diversity. Our local dishes would truly be a gastronomic experience to remember and to tantalise your taste-buds. So, be adventurous and try them for yourselves when you are in Singapore! Many of these dishes can be found in restaurants and food centres, the latter an integral aspect of Singapore life. A food centre has a number of stalls selling a vast variety of food. Though not air-conditioned, the very affordable prices more than make up for the lack of cool air. Click here for more information.
Singapore is at the cross-roads of ancient Asian civilisations like China and India. Our multicultural heritage is best experienced by visiting our ethnic quarters, namely Little India, Chinatown, Kampong Glam and Geylang Serai. Click here for more information. The Asian Civilisations Museum is another great place to discover Asian culture, as in the Images of Singapore, a museum that takes you back in time and space, to 14th century Singapore.
While we value our heritage, Singapore also keeps pace with what is modern and progressive. Shopping malls are plentiful along Orchard Road - our much talked-about shopping belt - not to mention high-end boutiques and brand-name bookstores such as Borders and Kinokuniya. For your information, our Great Singapore Sale starts on May 26 so you might want to make plans to catch it for great bargains.
For Singapore's warm tropical climate, with an average daily temperature range of 24 to 31 degrees Celsius, cotton-based wear would be most comfortable for the outdoors, and a light sweater would be good for that occasional afternoon thunderstorm.
In the April issue, we will highlight the exciting conference tours we have planned for you, as well as information to make your journey from the airport a more pleasant one.
Till then,

The IAEA Conference Secretariat
